A Swarm of Workers

These chaps, Perrycroft bees, are looked after by Chris White, producing fabulous honey and beeswax products.   We all realise nowadays what a hard time our insects are having.  A 2017 study revealed a 76% decline in flying insects since 1990.  Pollinators, such as bees, are particularly struggling so it’s a critical time to plan how we will help them this year – by planting more nectar-rich, open-headed flowering plants, and also by leaving those flowering weeds such as dandelions and daisies for a bit longer before the need to ‘tidy’ overcomes.  A tip: resist mowing in May. 2020
