Drum Roll, Trumpets, Put the Champagne on Ice!!!
Kempley Produce Market has been shortlisted for The Prince of Wales Award at The Royal Bath & West Show.
This Award is open to community organisations, schools, colleges and groups which have, through their own initiative, brought about improvements to the lives of the rural population via projects with long term viability.
As we approach our 10th Anniversary in July we wonder where the time gone? Yet looking back to the early years we have grown, changed & developed in so many ways. We’ve invested in the Market, and by default in the Village Hall, with resources to make using the Hall as accessible and enjoyable as possible for our rural community.
The Award is intended to embrace a wide range of schemes where there has been a genuine attempt to move forward in a resourceful and inventive way to the benefit of a rural community.
Our founding aims were threefold: to provide a regular informal social meeting place as a Cafe; a platform for local food producers (encouraged by a top notch Ice Cream producer, a Cake maker, Baker and a Honey man in the village), whilst supporting start-up businesses. Finally, if that wasn’t enough, we committed to raise funds for a renewable energy initiative for the Village Hall to the benefit of all users.
That’s a √√√
We have achieved these goals and are continuing to work with the local community and producers to develop new initiatives. The success of the Market has inspired other members of the community to set up an additional monthly lunchtime Café and a monthly evening Pop Up Pub.
The Award will be presented to the group which has, in the Judges’ estimation, made the most outstanding contribution to improving the lives of their community. The Award carries with it a framed certificate and a cash prize of £1,000 and memento from His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales which the winning group must use to further their community.W
We have plans for the future. Our vision is necessarily restricted by our environment. We will continue to contribute to the fabric of Hall and the social resilience of our community. We always welcome any ideas, just let us know. Let’s hope we win. We love a certificate …. something to cover up the mould on the walls! Fingers crossed.
